Glossary Of Terms

Immersion: Immersion into a game is a perception of being physically present in a non-physical world. The perception is created by surrounding the user of the game in images, sound or other stimuli that provide an engrossing total environment.
Tactical Immersion: Tactical immersion is experienced when performing tactile operations that involve skill. Players feel "in the zone" while perfecting actions that result in success.
Strategic Immersion: Strategic immersion is more cerebral, and is associated with mental challenge. Chess players experience strategic immersion when choosing a correct solution among a broad array of possibilities.
Narrative Immersion: Narrative immersion occurs when players become invested in a story, and is similar to what is experienced while reading a book or watching a movie.
Digital Game: any interactive game operated by computer circuitry. The machines, or"platforms," on which electronic games are played include general-purpose, shared and personal computers, arcade consoles, video consoles connected to home television sets, and handheld game machines. The term video game can be used to represent the totality of these formats, or it can refer more specifically only to games played on devices with video displays: television and arcade consoles

Cooperative Game: In game theory, a cooperative game is a game where groups of players ("coalitions") may enforce cooperative behavior, hence the game is a competition between coalitions of players, rather than between individual players.

Collaborative virtual environments (CVEs): used for collaboration and interaction of possibly many participants that may be spread over large distances. Typical examples are distributed simulations, 3D multiplayer games, collaborative engineering software, and others. The applications are usually based on the shared virtual environment.
